The Highgrove Solitary Bee house is for pollinating bees. This nesting house is made in Gloucestershire with locally sourced FSC certified durable cedar timber.
The design of the house is based on the classical temples in the Stumpery area of the Highgrove gardens. It has a unique interactive design which allows the nesting trays to be inspected (it is fascinating to see the cell formation and development of the bee or predator activity) or cleaned simply by unscrewing the base.
Solitary bees are the safest pollinating bees to encourage as most do not sting and are safe around pets and children. There is a serious decline in bee numbers around the world and providing habitat for pollinating bees is vital as bees are needed to pollinate a wide range of fruit, vegetables, flowers and crops. It is particularly important in the natural process for the organic garden. By owning a Highgrove Bee House you are contributing to nature conservation and biodiversity.
The house is suitable for the Red Mason Bee (Osmia rufa) and the Leaf-cutter bees (Megachile centuncularis and Megachile willugbiella).
