From May 21st to May 29th, 2022, the British Council, Heritage Foundation Pakistan, INTBAU, and BRAC University brought together a group of female students from Bangladesh, Pakistan, and the UK to construct a bamboo, low-tech, low-carbon structure based on Yasmeen Lari's designs.
The bamboo structure is surrounded by textiles stitched by the Dumfries House Sewing Bee of East Ayrshire, Scotland, and is decorated with tapestries made by female artisans from Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The structure was built at Kings Cross, London before being rebuilt and relocated to Highgrove Gardens, the private residence of Their Majesties The King Charles III and The Queen Camilla. The structure now sits on the Orchard Room Meadow where visiting guests can admire the beautiful work before embarking on one of their garden tours.
Made from bamboo, the aim was the build a low-tech, low-carbon structure.
It is decorated with tapestries crafted by female artisans from Bangladesh and Pakistan.
The structure was first assembled in Kings Cross, London.
INTBAU, established in 2001, is a global network dedicated to improving living conditions through traditional building, architecture, and urbanism.
